Emoji Guess is a free guess-the-emoji game for remote teams. Players need no account and there's nothing to download — share the room link or code and everyone joins in their browser. Each round you race to decode a string of emojis into a word or phrase, with the fastest correct answer winning, all beside your Zoom, Meet, or Teams call.

How it works

Emojis appear to reveal a hidden answer. Race to guess it first — the correct answer scores the most, then the next puzzle begins.

Why this works

Typing the answer first turns it into a race without anyone needing to unmute. Lateral thinkers tend to win, because the obvious interpretation is almost never right. That gives someone other than the usual loud voices a chance to be the person who cracks it.

What facilitators say

It runs in under five minutes with zero setup, and because every player races at once, attention doesn't drift the way it does in turn-based games.

Where it lands

Who it's for

  • Remote teams on daily or weekly standups
  • All-hands openers needing a quick energizer
  • Distributed teams across time zones
  • Teams that use async tools and are comfortable with emoji

Best for

  • 2-minute standup opener before the daily check-in
  • All-hands energizer segment between agenda items
  • Remote team social with 2–12 people
  • Async-friendly warm-up shared in a team channel

When not to use this game

Skip it for teams where emoji literacy varies a lot. Participants from some regional or generational contexts find emoji decoding harder than others, and that skews results in a way that feels arbitrary rather than fun.

Facilitator script

You'll see a sequence of emojis. Type your best guess for what word or phrase they spell out. Fastest correct answer wins the round.

Common questions

Is Emoji Guess free to play?
Yes. Emoji Guess is free to play in the browser. Only the host who opens the room signs in; everyone they invite plays for free with no per-player cost. It's an easy two-minute energizer to drop into a standup or all-hands at no charge.
Do players need to sign up or download anything?
No. Players join by opening the room link or typing the room code in any browser — no account and no install. The host starts the room and shares the link, then everyone types their guesses straight away. Because answers are typed rather than spoken, nobody even has to unmute.
How many people can play Emoji Guess?
It works well with 2 to 12 players. Since everyone races to type the answer at the same time rather than taking turns, it doesn't slow down as the group grows, which is why it holds up as a quick standup or all-hands warm-up. For very large meetings, breakout rooms keep it lively.
Can we play Emoji Guess on Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams?
Yes. It runs in a browser tab next to your video call. Keep Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams open for the call, share the room link in the meeting chat, and play on a second screen or tab. It doesn't integrate into the meeting platform, so it works the same across all three.
How long does Emoji Guess take?
It's one of the fastest games here — a single emoji puzzle resolves in seconds, and a full set of rounds for a team runs in under five minutes with zero setup. That makes it ideal as a standup opener or a quick palate-cleanser between agenda items rather than a main activity.
