Speed Sketch is a free Pictionary style draw-and-guess game for remote teams. Players need no account and there's nothing to install — share the room link or code and everyone joins in their browser. One person sketches a secret word while everyone else races to guess it, with the drawer rotating each round, all beside your Zoom, Meet, or Teams call.

How it works

One player draws a secret word while everyone else races to guess it. The faster you guess correctly, the more points you win each round.

Why this works

Half the entertainment is the drawer's frantic interpretation of a difficult word. The other half is the stream of wrong guesses landing in the chat. Rotating the drawer means everyone takes a turn being a little bit ridiculous, which is its own low-key trust exercise.

What facilitators say

Zero preparation, runs in under five minutes, and a facilitator can drop it into any meeting cold with no materials.

Where it lands

Who it's for

  • Remote standup openers
  • Small team meetings needing a fast warm-up
  • Workshop kick-offs with 3–10 participants
  • Teams looking for a 5-minute activity with no setup

Best for

  • 3-minute standup opener before the daily check-in
  • Workshop warm-up for a team of 3–10
  • Remote team social when time is short
  • End-of-sprint closer for a delivery team

When not to use this game

Skip it for participants on phones without a stylus. Drawing on a small touchscreen disadvantages the drawer unfairly. Save this one for laptop or tablet users.

Facilitator script

The drawer gets a secret word and has to sketch it. No letters, no numbers. Everyone else types their guess in the chat. Faster guesses score more.

Common questions

Is Speed Sketch free to play?
Yes. Speed Sketch is free to play in the browser. Only the facilitator who opens the room signs in; everyone they invite plays for free with no per-player cost. It's a no-budget five-minute warm-up you can drop into a standup or small team meeting.
Do players need to sign up or download anything?
No. Players join by opening the room link or typing the room code in any browser — no account, no app, and no drawing software. The host opens the room and shares the link, and everyone is drawing or guessing straight away. A laptop or tablet works best for the player whose turn it is to draw.
How many people can play Speed Sketch?
It works best with 3 to 10 players. You need at least three so one person can draw while at least two guess, and it stays fast up to about ten. For larger groups the wait between drawing turns grows, so splitting into a couple of rooms keeps everyone guessing.
Can we play Speed Sketch on Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams?
Yes. It runs in a browser tab next to your video call. Keep Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams open for the call, share the room link in the meeting chat, and play on a second screen or tab. It doesn't integrate with the meeting platform, so it works the same across all three.
How do you play Speed Sketch?
One player is given a secret word and sketches it within the time limit — no letters or numbers allowed. Everyone else types their guesses, and faster correct guesses earn more points. Then a new player becomes the drawer with a fresh word, and the round repeats until everyone has had a turn at the easel.
