Draw-and-guess chain game

A Telestrations alternative for remote teams

Telestrations turns the telephone game into a drawing chain, and the reveal at the end is reliably the funniest two minutes of a game night. Sketch Relay is that same draw-then-guess chain built for a distributed team, with work-safe prompts and no signup for players.

What Telestrations does well

The hidden chain is the whole payoff. You draw a prompt, the next person guesses your drawing, the person after draws their guess, and by the reveal the phrase has mutated into something nobody intended. Around a table with friends, Telestrations is a deserved favourite.

Where remote teams hit the wall

Telestrations ships as physical sketch pads and markers, which is exactly what a distributed team does not have in front of them on a Thursday video call. There is no official remote version, so teams improvise with a shared whiteboard that loses the hidden-chain surprise, or they skip it. The game-night framing also assumes a group that is already loose rather than a mixed meeting with a new hire in the room.

What we built differently

Sketch Relay keeps the hidden chain intact. Each player draws a prompt against a timer, the next player sees only that drawing and types a guess, and the guess becomes the next prompt down the line. At the reveal, the whole team watches each chain unwind from the original phrase to the final drawing. It runs in any browser and the facilitator just shares a link, with no account needed for players.

Common questions

Is this the same as Telestrations?
It is the same core mechanic — the draw-guess-draw chain that mutates a phrase and reveals the damage at the end. The differences are that it runs online with no pads or markers, the prompts are written to be work-safe, and there is no signup for players.
Does it need a signup or install?
No install, and no signup for players. The facilitator signs in with Google, opens a room, and shares the link or code. Everyone else joins in the browser and starts drawing.
Does it work on a video call?
Yes. Each player draws and guesses on their own device beside your Zoom, Meet, or Teams call, and the reveal walkthrough plays on screen for the whole room.
How many people do you need?
It works best with 4 to 10. You need at least four for the chain to travel far enough that the drawings drift in interesting ways before they come back around.
